EUREKA, Utah-Gavin Morgan led the way with 18 points and the Piute Thunderbirds routed Tintic 57-38 Tuesday in non-region boys basketball play. Holden Peterson had 15 points in the loss for the Miners.
Girls Basketball
3A State Playoffs 1st Round
NEPHI, Utah-Ashley Christensen posted 20 points and 6 rebounds as the No. 18 Ogden Tigers pulled off a slight upset in besting No. 15 Juab 53-45 to commence the 3A state playoffs at Juab High School Tuesday.
Ava Cuff had 13 points and 4 rebounds and Avia Stowell added 12 points and 8 boards on 6-11 from the field in defeat for the Wasps as their season concludes.
Juab ends the season at 7-14 and 3-5 in Region 14 play. Ogden next faces No. 2 seed Richfield at Richfield High School Friday in the second round of the 3A state playoffs. The winner of that game advances to the state quarterfinals February 24 at the Dee Events Center at Weber State University in Ogden.
The Tigers are presently 7-16 on the season after Tuesday evening’s victory.
DELTA, Utah-Kate Smith posted 26 points and the No. 13 Delta Rabbits smacked No. 20 Ben Lomond 52-29 in the first round of the 3A state girls basketball tournament Tuesday at the Palladium. Ora Auregum had 10 points in defeat for the Scots. Delta next visits No. 4 Emery Friday evening at the Spartan Center in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
DRAPER, Utah-Alynn Crooms led the way with 27 points and the No. 16 Juan Diego Soaring Eagle soared past No. 17 North Sanpete 53-44 Tuesday in the first round of the 3A state girls basketball tournament. Eryn Briggs had 13 points in the loss for the Hawks. Juan Diego next faces No. 1 Judge Friday in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
SPANISH FORK, Utah-The No. 14 American Leadership Academy Eagles beat No. 19 Providence Hall 45-39 in the 1st round of the 3A state girls basketball tournament. ALA now plays at No. 3 Grantsville Friday.
2A State Playoffs 1st Round
ENTERPRISE, Utah-Noah Moyle’s 12 points led the way and the No. 13 Enterprise Wolves pounded the No. 20 Utah Military Academy-Hill Air Force Base Thunderbirds 54-18 Tuesday in the first round of the 2A state girls basketball tournament. Malaya Larsen had 5 points in the loss. The Wolves next visit No. 4 North Summit Friday in the second round of the state tournament.
OGDEN, Utah-Sarah Snell and Elizabeth Randall had 15 points apiece and the No. 15 St. Joseph Jayhawks downed No. 18 Waterford 51-43 in the first round of the 2A state girls basketball tournament Tuesday. Caroline Lotulelei led the Ravens in defeat with a game-high 16 points. St. Joseph next visits No. 2 Kanab Friday in the second round of the state tournament.
PAROWAN, Utah-Katlynn Matheson’s 13 points led the way and the No. 12 Parowan Rams pounded No. 21 APA West Valley 59-6 in the first round of the 2A state girls basketball tournament Tuesday. Daniela Garcia had 3 points in the loss for the Eagles. No. 12 Parowan next faces No. 5 Draper APA Friday in the second round of the state tournament.
SALT LAKE CITY-Ana Rodriguez and Kaitlyn Bates had 7 points apiece and the No. 11 Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s Winged Lions hammered No. 22 Merit 44-11 Tuesday in the first round of the 2A state girls basketball tournament. Mary Moody had 5 points for the Knights in the loss. Rowland Hall next faces No. 6 Duchesne Friday in the second round of the state tournament.
LINDON, Utah-Khalil Eyetoo stepped up with 21 points and the No. 19 San Juan Broncos pummeled No. 14 Maeser Prep 56-34 in the first round of the 2A state girls basketball tournament Tuesday. Kelly Ha had 11 points for the Lions in the loss. San Juan next visits No. 3 Millard in the second round of the state tournament Friday.
PROVO, Utah-Rilee Dyreng netted 21 points and the No. 17 Gunnison Valley Bulldogs routed No. 16 Freedom Prep 48-28 in the first round of the 2A state girls basketball tournament Tuesday. Brooklyn Parent had 7 points in the loss for the Eagles. The Bulldogs next face No. 1 Beaver Friday in the second round of the state tournament.
