Clean Slate Law Goes Into Effect

(Salt Lake City, UT) – A new law in Utah went into effect yesterday, clearing old and minor criminal records for close to half-a-million people. The Clean Slate Law was passed unanimously by the Utah Legislature three years ago. State officials say the goal is to remove unnecessary barriers for needs like adequate housing and employment. Individuals who qualify must remain conviction-free for five-to-seven years to have their records ease. Offenses include misdemeanor drug possession, and most misdemeanor B and C level charges.
