CEDAR CITY, Utah-Tuesday afternoon, Southern Utah University head football coach DeLane Fitzgerald announced the addition of Darrius G. Smith to the Thunderbirds’ coaching staff.
Smith will serve as the T-Birds’ running backs coach and recruiting coordinator per a report from suutbirds.com.
Smith has served as the head coach at NCAA Division II Fort Lewis of Durango, Colo. the past two seasons.
Smith went 0-13 as the Skyhawks’ head coach.
Prior to his head coach job at Fort Lewis, Smith was the offensive coordinator/receivers coach at NCAA FCS Bryant University.
Smith’s coaching experience has taken him to various college football programs.
He has also had stints at UMASS, Villanova, Northeastern (the Huskies’ football program has since been canceled), James Madison, Idaho, Indiana (Pa.) and New Mexico Highlands.
Smith commenced his coaching career at NCAA Division II Frostburg State (Md.) and was previously a three-year starter at defensive back for the Bobcats.
