House Advances Bill To Offer Incentives For Water-Wise Landscaping

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers are trying to make it more attractive for homeowners to ditch landscaping that wastes a lot of water. The House Natural Resources Committee voted to advance House Bill 121 yesterday. The bill by Representative Robert Spendlove would give incentives to homeowners who remove lawn and turf and replace it with drought-resistant landscaping. It also requires state government agencies to cut the use of turf at all facilities and reduce landscape water use by 25-percent.
