BOSTON-In news released Thursday morning, Weber State, Utah Valley and Southern Utah University men’s basketball have each placed standouts on the midseason Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award Watch List.
This award, named after the former coach at NCAA Division III Hardin-Simmons (1962-1966), New Mexico State (1966-1975; 1997-2005) and Illinois (1975-1996) is annually presented to the top mid-major men’s basketball player in Division I.
The Wolverines are represented by sophomore center Fardaws Aimaq (19.4 points, 13.5 rebounds per game). Aimaq’s 216 net rebounds and 13.5 rebounds per game each rank second nationally.
The Wildcats are represented by senior point guard Koby McEwen. The former Wasatch Academy, Utah State and Marquette standout averages 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for Weber State.
The Thunderbirds’ representative is senior power forward Tevian Jones. Jones, a native of Chandler, Ariz. who transferred from Illinois, averages 13.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for SUU.
Representatives for this prestigious award hail from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conferences.
