Bill Would Prohibit HOAs, Local Government From Requiring Grass Lawns

(Salt Lake City, UT) – New legislation is looking to combat water shortages and drought in Utah on the home front. House Bill 95 from Republican Representative Ray Ward would prohibit local governments and homeowners associations from requiring residents to maintain grass lawns. The goal is to give homeowners more choice in what they use for their own yards, including xeriscape options. This comes as Utah recently introduced a Flip Your Strip program, offering residents buybacks for replacing lawns with more water-efficient options.
