Aimaq Earns Numerous Honors Monday

DENVER-Monday, Utah Valley sophomore center Fairdaws Aimaq was named the WAC player of the week for the third consecutive week.

Aimaq, who is averaging 2o.8 points and 14.8 rebounds per game, posted 24 points, a season-high 22 rebounds and four assists in the Wolverines’ 72-65 upset win over then-No. 12 BYU on Wednesday.

Aimaq, a candidate for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (annually awarded to the top center in Division I men’s basketball), leads the nation in double-doubles (7) and is second in total rebounds (118).

Additionally, Aimaq was named the ESPN Player of the Week and the Lute Olson National Player of the Week for his heroics against the Cougars.

The 7-1 Wolverines return to action Wednesday by visiting 5-3 Southern Utah at Cedar City.
