(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers will have some extra money to spend when they meet in January. The legislature’s Executive Appropriations Committee learned yesterday that there will be a surplus of more than 600-million dollars that can be spent during the next regular session. Some Republican leaders support using the money for a tax cut, increased education spending and infrastructure improvements. Democrats would like to see the money used for social programs such as health care and homeless assistance.
