House Speaker: Utah Legislature Will Always Have Final Say On Political Maps

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The speaker of the Utah House says he’s confident the state’s new political maps will stand up to any legal challenges. Speaker Brad Wilson says opponents of the new maps could sue the state seeking to overturn the legislature’s decisions. But Wilson feels the state has the upper hand, because the legislature’s authority to decide political boundaries is written into the Utah Constitution. Wilson also says any ballot measure that tries to overturn the maps is likely to fail for the same reason.
