(Salt Lake City, UT) — A state lawmaker is convinced that a congressional map submitted by the state’s Independent Redistricting Committee is politically biased. The map was created by a member of the public, and the chair of the redistricting committee defended it because the map passed their independent tests for fairness. But State Senator Scott Sandall said yesterday that the map was drawn with a tool that builds political bias into its suggested boundaries. The legislature will consider 12 maps submitted by the independent committee, though lawmakers are working on another set of maps that they could also consider using.
