3-A 1st Round
MANTI, Utah-Chet Colvin had scoring runs of 80 and 3 yards and a 70-yard kickoff return for a score as the Ogden Tigers overpowered Manti 34-28 in the first round of the 3-A state football playoffs Friday.
Keegan Strickland had scoring receptions of 9, 26, and 19 yards for the Templars in the loss. Reggie Frischknecht added a 29-yard touchdown grab for Manti in defeat.
The Tigers next face No. 1 seed Juab Friday at 6:00 pm in the 3-A state quarterfinals.
MT. PLEASANT, Utah-Landon Bowles tossed four touchdown passes and the North Sanpete Hawks pounded Ben Lomond 37-6 Friday in the first round of the 3-A state football playoffs. Xander Shelley added a 33-yard touchdown run for the Hawks. Austion Herbert had a 16-yard touchdown run for the Scots in the loss. North Sanpete next visits No. 4 seed Morgan Friday at 6:00 pm in the state quarterfinals.
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Adrian Barnes threw a 6-yard touchdown pass in double overtime and the Canyon View Falcons outlasted Richfiel 34-28 in the first round of the 3-A state football playoffs Friday. Barnes threw three touchdown passes overall for the Falcons in the win. Hunter Alger and Reggie Hafen each threw touchdown passes in defeat for the Wildcats. Jaron Ross and Carsten Jensen each added touchdown runs in the loss for Richfield. The Falcons next face No. 2 seed Juan Diego Friday at 6:00 pm in the state quarterfinals.
ROOSEVELT, Utah-Jaxon Rasmussen threw two touchdown passes and the Union Cougars hammered Carbon 37-0 Friday in the first round of the 3-A state football playoffs. Tracer Schmitt and Boone Lathem each had touchdown runs for the Cougars in victory. Union next faces No. 3 seed Grantsville Friday at 6:00 pm in the state quarterfinals.
2-A Playoffs
FILLMORE, Utah-James Stephenson threw a pair of touchdown passes to Mehki Davis and the Millard Eagles hammered South Sevier 40-14 in the first round of the 2-A state football playoffs Friday. Morgan Wade added scoring runs of 45, 3 and 18 yards for the Eagles in the rout. Porter Marr (57 yards) and Carter Abraham (14 yards) led the Rams in defeat. The No. 8 seed Eagles next face No. 1 seed San Juan Friday at 6:00 pm.
DELTA, Utah-Josh Jackson ran for five touchdowns and returned an interception 65 yards for another score as the Delta Rabbits pounded American Leadership 42-10 Friday in the first round of the 2-A state football playoffs. Tyrell Robertson threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Jayzn Hawley and Daniel Haston added a 35-yard field goal for the Eagles in the loss. Delta next faces No. 3 seed Beaver Friday at 6:00 pm in the 2-A state quarterfinals.
HERRIMAN, Utah-Michael Scott had three touchdown runs and passed for another score as the Providence Hall Patriots pulverized Judge 44-12 in the first round of the 2-A state football playoffs Friday. Isaiah Hemmings threw a touchdown pass and ran for another score to pace the Bulldogs in the loss. The Patriots next face No. 2 seed South Summit Friday at 6:00 pm in the state semifinals.
1-A Playoffs
LAYTON, Utah-Jessaia Moala ran for four scores and the Layton Christian Eagles hammered Monticello 84-0 Friday in the first round of the 1-A state football playoffs. The Eagles next visit No. 3 seed Enterprise Friday at 6:00 pm.
COALVILLE, Utah-Kale Hobson ran for a pair of scores and the North Summit Braves overpowered Rich 27-0 in the first round of the 1-A state football playoffs Friday. The Braves next visit No. 2 seed Kanab Friday at 6:00 pm.
PAROWAN, Utah-Chritian Bost ran for a pair of scores with Braden Bettridge and Conor Robison adding touchdown runs as the Parowan Rams blasted Gunnison Valley 35-8 Friday in the first round of the 1-A state football playoffs. Parowan next visits No. 1 seed Duchesne Friday at 6:00 pm in the state quarterfinals.
Volleyball
2-A State 1st Round
SALINA, Utah-The North Sevier Wolves overpowered Merit 3-0 Friday in the first round of the 2-A state volleyball playoffs. The Wolves prevailed 25-10, 25-7, 25-10 over the Knights. North Sevier next faces No. 4 seed North Summit Friday at 9:00 am in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs at Utah Valley University.
1-A State 1st Round
MONTICELLO, Utah-The Monticello Buckaroos stymied Dugway 3-0 Friday in the first round of the 1-A state volleyball playoffs. The Buckaroos humbled the Mustangs 25-14, 25-12, 25-4 to advance in the stte tournament. The Buckaroos next face No. 6 seed Wendover Friday at 5:30 pm in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs at Utah Valley University.
