(Salt Lake City, UT) — A coalition of environmental groups is working with a Utah mining operation and state officials to secure more water for the Great Salt Lake. Rio Tinto Kennecott is donating excess water from its mining operations and will allow it to travel down the Jordan River to Farmington Bay to help replenish the lake. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will help administer the water rights in what officials are calling a first for the state. The donation agreement will be in place for the next ten years.
