MT. PLEASANT, Utah-Luke Ivers completed 17 of 34 passes for 302 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception as the Class 5-A Payson Lions outlasted North Sanpete 40-35 Friday in non-region football play.
This shootout to commence the season featured 75 net points and 1,052 net yards of offense.
The Lions built a 17-0 lead in the 1st Quarter as Ivers hit Dylan Wall (5 rec, 120 yards) on a 13-yard scoring reception. This was followed by a 22-yard field goal by Zach Robbins and a controversial 95-yard interception return for a touchdown by Rhett Robinson as he appeared to step out of bounds.
The Hawks therefore found themselves behind the 8 ball all evening while Landon Bowles (33-54, 417 yards, 3 TD’s/4 INT’s) had an overall uneven performance for North Sanpete.
The Hawks pulled to within 40-28 on a 56-yard touchdown run from Dakoda Harward (6 touches, 76 scrimmage yards) with 9:53 left but a Bowles interception by Layne Osborn (who intercepted Bowles twice on the evening) and a long Payson drive to kill clock put North Sanpete in dire straits.
The Hawks pulled to within 40-35 on a 47-yard scoring strike from Landon Bowles to Morgan Bowles (8 rec, 147 yards, TD) but the ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Lions, securing the victory.
Other strong performances on the evening came from Payson tailback Kelton Smith (13 car, 110 yards) and Lions receiver Jaxton Howard (6 rec, 129 yards) as well as North Sanpete receiver Tyler Allan (7 rec, 123 yards, 2 TD’s).
DUCHESNE, Utah-Parker Crum threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Draker Goodliffe and had scoring runs of 49 and 14 yards as the Duchesne Eagles pounded Milford 32-13 in non-region football play Friday. Bo Hardy had scoring runs of 1 and 11 yards in the loss for the Tigers.
COALVILLE, Utah-Crimzon Crittenden had a pair of 2-yard scoring runs and the North Summit Braves edged Delta 20-18 Friday in non-region football play. Kale Hobson added a 66-yard touchdown run in the win for the Braves. Will Skeem ran for a score and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dreyden Lovell while Seth Bryan added a 5-yard touchdown run in the loss for the Rabbits.
MANTI, Utah-Kayson Douglas threw a touchdown pass to Keegan Strickland and Alex Cox and Carter Stevenson ran for scores as the Manti Templars waxed Union 19-7 in non-region football play Friday.
BEAVER, Utah-Tyten Fails threw scoring passes to Conner Crum of 21 and 15 yards as the Beaver Beavers blanked Kanab 28-0 in non-region football play Friday. Jayton Jessup and Cobe Carter ran for scores in the win for the Beavers.
PAROWAN, Utah-Ryker Richards had scoring receptions of 20, 30 and 22 yards as the Juab Wasps bested Parowa 37-27 Friday in non-region football play. Jared Dye had a 63-yard scoring run in victory as well for the Wasps.
MONROE, Utah-Kannin Boswell had scoring runs of 20 and 46 yards and the North Sevier Wolves ran roughshod over South Sevier with a 41-6 win in non-region football play Friday. Deagan Brazell (13 yards) and Nathan Snyder (5 yards) also ran for scores for the Wolves. Cauy Williams hauled in an 8-yard scoring pass from Ryker Frischknecht as well for North Sevier and Keaton Peterson drilled field goals of 38 and 34 yards for the Wolves. Grayson Friant had a 6-yard touchdown run in the loss for the Rams.
FILLMORE, Utah-The Timpanogos Timberwolves outscored Millard 21-6 in the 2nd half to drill the Eagles 45-26 Friday in non-region football play. For the Eagles, James Stephenson threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Morgan Wade and KC Whitaker and Taylor Davies each ran for scores. Mehki Davis added a 92-yard kickoff return for a score for the Eagles.
HURRICANE, Utah-Carter Ashby threw three touchdown passes and the Hurricane Tigers edged Richfield 28-26 in non-region football play Friday. Jensen Heston ran for two scores while Pearson Stockton added a 15-yard touchdown run for the Wildcats in the loss. Udy Laken hauled in a 27-yard scoring reception as well for Richfield in defeat.

SPANISH FORK, Utah-Gracie Keisel posted 12 kills and the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles waxed Delta 3-1 Friday in non-region volleyball play. The Golden Eagles prevailed 25-17, 19-25, 25-12 and 25-10 to earn the victory.

PAYSON, Utah-The Payson Lions scored a goal in each half to get the 2-0 shutout win over Delta in non-region girls soccer action Friday.
