PROVO, Utah-Wednesday, BYU football star sophomore tailback Tyler Allgeier was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list for the 2021 season.
Allgeier ranked 8th nationally with 1,130 rushing yards in 2020 and was No. 1 among tailbacks with 150 carries or less with his yardage.
Allgeier also ran for 13 scores, tying him for 10th nationally in that category with Notre Dame’s Kyren Williams and Kenneth Walker III of Wake Forest.
By virtue of his achievements, Allgeier received 2020 honorable mention All-American status from college football guru Phil Steele.
The 5-11 220-pound Fontana, Calif. native posted a team-best 118.5 all-purpose yards for the Cougars last season as he added 12.4 yards per catch in 2020.
Former BYU star tailback Luke Staley won the Doak Walker Award in 2001 by posting 1,582 rushing yards and 28 net touchdowns for the Cougars that season.
