Dixie State Men’s Basketball Faces Division I Wyoming Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo.-Saturday, Dixie State men’s basketball, ahead of a likely move to Division I in 2020-21, will face Division I opponent Wyoming at the Arena-Auditorium of Laramie, Wyo.

This historic meeting commemorates the first battle in history between the Trailblazers and Cowboys, who represent the Mountain West Conference.

This is the 10th time as a Division II institution that the Trailblazers have played a Division I school but only the 9th time they’ve played an exhibition, which this game is.

In its Division II history, Dixie State is 1-7 against Division I foes in exhibitions.

The lone victory came November 1, 2013 when the Trailblazers upset UNLV 71-70 at Las Vegas.

The Cowboys are the fifth different Division I foe Dixie State has faced. The Trailblazers have drawn UNLV four times, Utah Valley on three occasions and BYU and Utah one time each.

The Trailblazers come into this game at 4-5 and 2-3 in conference play.

Dixie State scores 70.7 points per game and surrenders 72.4 points per contest.

Junior forward Matt Conway remains the Trailblazers’ statistical leader as he scores 15.4 points per game, while hauling in 5.8 rebounds per contest.
