Richfield discusses problems with ordinances
Published on October 31, 2008 at 11:12AM
(RICHFIELD) – The Richfield City Council met in session Tuesday night to discuss changes in loitering and body piercing ordinances. During the meeting, the council repealed the old loitering ordinance because it gave law enforcement no ability to enforce it and created a new one, patterned after a Lehi ordinance. Mayor Brad Ramsay compared the old ordinance to the new one, saying that it gives police and businesses more teeth to enforce it. The city council also discussed a problem of body piercing being done in downtown businesses in violation of the tattooing ordinance. Mayor Ramsay said particulars of the ordinance need to have further review. Officials hope to have problems in both ordinances corrected and in full force by the next city council meeting.

Trial delayed for Beaver Jail inmate

(BEAVER) – The trial for a man accused of attacking two sheriff’s deputies has been delayed until next year. Sioneone Takai was housed in the Beaver County Jail on March 10 this year and attacked the deputies after the Utah Department of Corrections yanked all of its first-degree felons in the aftermath of an escape in Daggett County. Takai was one of three state prison inmates serving time for second-degree felony robbery. Court records indicate DNA test results have not returned on Takai and his trial will be delayed. Takai is also demanding a new lawyer but a judge denied the request. Trials have also been delayed for co-defendants Christopher Olague and Samisoni Kefu, according to court records.
