(RICHFIELD) – The ATV Jamboree gets underway today in Richfield with hundreds of four-wheelers from all over the world traveling up and down city streets and in the hills. Richfield Chamber of Commerce staff member, Lorraine Gregerson, says numbers are down this year. She said that without the volunteer effort from local residents and businesses, the Jamboree would not be as successful as it is. Gregerson also said the Chamber is honoring Mike Turner of Mike’s Auto Clinic in Richfield as Customer Service Superstar of the Month and Dianne Allen of ERA Broker’s in Richfield as Business of the Month. Turner said the ATV Jamboree is good for the economy. Allen commented that the camping area behind her business provides a nice rest stop for Jamboree attendees. The ATV Jamboree continues all this week.
Ash disposal site discussion tabled

(RICHFIELD) – The ash disposal site near Koosharem Reservoir submitted by Sevier Power Company continues to be a hot topic of discussion by the Sevier County Planning Commission. In Wednesday’s meeting, planning members said that they would have to table the discussion because there are too many issues surrounding the approval of the site. They said several studies need to be made including requiring SPC to obtain a Hazardous Solid Waste Permit from the state, the drilling of a well for water at the site with monitoring capabilities, fencing surrounding the site with locked gates, UDOT approved road construction on SR-24, access to ATV trails and a bond election for reclamation if ash is no longer disposed of at the site. Planning members said they’ll discuss all issues thoroughly in the next meeting.

(RICHFIELD) – The Sevier County Planning Commission held two public hearings Wednesday and discussed several issues facing the county. A hearing was held to consider amending the Sevier County Subdivision ordinance to provide restrictions on remaining parcels when subdividing. Little comment was offered from the public concerning the effect it would have on county land-use ordinances. Another public hearing was also held to consider a request for a zoning change for land south of the Koosharem Reservoir. Planning members also granted two conditional use permits to Wolverine Oil to drill exploratory wells in the Plateau Valley and Burrville Federal plats in the Bear Valley area of Sevier County with conditions that access to roads will be available and road improvements would be made. The Commission also tabled discussion until the next meeting on the ash disposal site north of the Koosharem Reservoir submitted by the Sevier Power Company.
