Phils Hold Off Cards in NL Showdown

ST. LOUIS-Joe Blanton won his first game as a Philadelphia Phillies pitcher in a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday at Busch Stadium. Greg Dobbs and Ryan Howard contributed to the win with solo home runs for Philadelphia, while the Phillies won their sixth game in seven outings. Ryan Ludwick hit his 26th home run of the season in the seventh inning for the Cardinals to provide all of the offense for St. Louis. In other MLB action Saturday, the Chicago Cubs waxed Pittsburgh, 5-1, Kansas City surged past the Chicago White Sox, 9-7, the New York Yankees torched the Los Angeles Angels, 8-2, Milwaukee doubled up Atlanta, 4-2, Tampa Bay hammered Detroit, 9-3, Boston bludgeoned Oakland, 12-2, Houston tripped up the New York Mets, 5-4 in 10 innings, Cleveland smacked Minnesota, 5-1, Washington outlasted Cincinnati, 10-6, Florida humbled Colorado, 5-3, Toronto stymied Texas, 6-4, San Francisco ousted San Diego, 2-0, Baltimore blew past Seattle, 3-1, and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished off Arizona, 4-2.
