BOSTON-In a Game 7 which evoked memories of the historic Boston Garden, the TD Banknorth Garden was the site for one of the best NBA playoff games in the past decade. Paul Pierce scored 41 points, while nailing 13 of 23 shots as the Boston Celtics surged past the Cleveland Cavaliers, 97-92 Sunday in their Eastern Conference semifinal. After a low scoring first quarter which saw the Celts earn an 18-13 lead, both teams exploded from that time on in what proved to be a competitive game throughout. After Cleveland’s Sasha Pavlovic hit a 3-pointer to make it a 95-92 game in the closing seconds, Pierce made a pair of free throws to close the deal. LeBron James had 45 points to lead all scorers in the loss for the Cavaliers. With the win, Boston advances to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the well-rested Detroit Pistons. Game 1 is slated for Tuesday evening in Boston.
