Pistons Use Controversy To Edge Magic; Go Up 2-0
Published on May 05, 2008 at 11:02PM
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.-Chauncey Billups had 28 points including a controversial three-point field goal in the third quarter as the Detroit Pistons took a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal with the Orlando Magic with a 100-93 win Monday evening at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Billups’ shot, which gave Detroit a 78-76 lead at the end of the third quarter occurred when there were allegedly 0.5 seconds left in the period. The possession in question began with 5.1 seconds left in the quarter, with the game clock freezing at 4.8 seconds. TNT, the national broadcaster of the game, confirmed that 5.2 seconds had run off before Billups’ shot. Despite the tough break, the Magic were in the game until the end, but Billups’ clutch free-throw shooting and Detroit’s stifling defense enabled the Pistons to escape with a 2-0 lead in the series. Game 3 in this series will take place Wednesday in Orlando, Fla. Dwight Howard had 22 points and 18 rebounds for the Magic in the loss, while Jameer Nelson had 22 points as well for Orlando. In other NBA action Monday, New Orleans obliterated San Antonio, 102-84.
Bennett praises CBO report

(WASHINGTON D.C.) – Sen. Bob Bennett last week praised the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report on the effects the Healthy Americans Act would have on the national budget. He said the CBO report stated the Act would actually create surpluses by 2014. Bennett said that he and Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, have won 12 U.S. Senate co-sponsors for the first bipartisan, health reform bill to cover all Americans. The Healthy American Act would give Americans the choice in where to get their health care, break the link between employment and insurance to make health care portable from job to job, promote personal responsibility and preventative medicine and reform the insurance market so that insurers are forced to compete on price, benefits and quality.
