Wild And Scenic River Meeting

Published on January 31, 2008 at 02:13PM

(Ephraim) The Forest Service has released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Wild And Scenic River Suitability in Utah, including river segments in Central Utah. A public meeting and Open House will be held at the Greenwood Student Center in Ephraim on February 5th from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about what the designation would mean and submit comments about the proposal. A number of river segments have been deemed eligible, and classified as wild and scenic, but they must now be shown to be suitable before being recommended to Congress for an official designation. Public comment plays a significant part in the suitability portion of the process. If designated, severe restrictions would be placed on the use of those rivers and the land surrounding them. Among the river segments that will be discussed at the meeting are Fish and Gooseberry Creeks, Huntington Creek, and Left Fork of Huntington Creek. The public comment period will continue until February 15th.

He also stated that there were indicators of illegal activity. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 6.5 kilos of cocaine wrapped inside Valentine gifts. Trooper Bowles said the street value of the drugs was around $650,000. The two women were booked into the Sevier County Jail on charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and a two-year old girl was taken into DCFS custody.
