Gunnison Leak Lawsuit
Published on January 24, 2008 at 05:38PM
(Gunnison) A lawsuit has been filed as a result of the gas leak in Gunnison. The suit was filed by Lila Lee Christensen, whose store has been a part of Main Street for fifty-seven years. She was forced to close after the fumes permeated all of her inventory. Christensen apparently notified state environmental officials about the fumes in July. The leak was officially discovered in August. Her attorney says the suit seeks unspecified damages to property to compensate for her losses. The damaged inventory is worth a retail value of one-point-seven million dollars according to Christensen. The lawsuit also makes allegations that Top Stop knew it’s tanks had a problem long before it was reported, and that they attempted to shut down the store without reporting the leak. Top Stop’s attorney sent a letter to Christensen expressing a desire to settle the claim, but rejected the amount claimed in the damage. According to Christensen’s attorney, that left no option but to file suit to protect his clients interests.
