Published on November 04, 2007 at 11:58PM

PHOENIX-Steve Nash had 30 points and 10 assists and the Phoenix Suns maintained their high level of play notwithstanding the absence of Amare Stoudemire by handling the Cleveland Cavaliers, 103-92 at the U.S. Airways Center Sunday evening. Additionally, Shawn Marion amassed 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Suns, while Leandro Barbosa and Boris Diaw combined for 30 more points for Phoenix. Although Suns coach Mike D’Antoni wasn’t overly impressed with the victory, it was still sweet for him as it proved to be his 200th win, thus making him the fastest coach in franchise history to obtain this mark. LeBron James had 27 points and eight assists to lead the Cavs in the loss. In other NBA action Sunday, Boston edged Toronto, 98-95 in overtime, the Los Angeles Clippers smoked Seattle, 115-101, Charlotte eked out a 90-88 victory over Miami, New York got past Minnesota, 97-93, Detroit squeaked by Atlanta, 92-91, New Orleans surged past Denver, 93-88, and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated Utah, 119-109.

Peterson Bolts Past Chargers

Published on November 04, 2007 at 11:47PM

MINNEAPOLIS-Adrian Peterson had 30 carries for an NFL single game record 296 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-clinching score on a 46-yard jaunt as the Minnesota Vikings stunned the San Diego Chargers, 35-17, Sunday afternoon at the H.H.H. Metrodome. Still, this was not the only record set in the game as San Diego cornerback Antonio Cromartie returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a score which not only gave the Chargers a 14-7 lead at intermission, it set NFL history as the longest return in league annals. Perhaps the biggest story of the day, though, was the Vikings’ stout defense against the run. Minnesota came into the game as the top-ranked run stopping defense in the league and they proved their merits once again as star San Diego tailback LaDainian Tomlinson amassed only 40 yards on the ground while the Chargers only ran for 42 as a team. Additionally, rookie receiver Sidney Rice hauled in a 40-yard scoring pass from QB Brooks Bollinger in the rout. The loss was disappointing for San Diego as they fell to 4-4 in the defeat, and must now travel back home to battle a solid Indianapolis team in primetime next week, while the Vikings (3-5) can get back in the NFC North race as they travel to Green Bay, Wis., to battle the Packers. In other NFL action Sunday, New Orleans smacked Jacksonville, 41-24, Washington edged the New York Jets, 23-20 in overtime, Tampa Bay got by Arizona, 17-10, Atlanta humbled San Francisco, 20-16, Buffalo surged past Cincinnati, 33-21, Detroit took Denver to the woodshed, 44-7, Tennessee dominated Carolina, 20-7, Green Bay outgunned Kansas City, 33-22, Cleveland mildly shocked Seattle, 33-30 in overtime, Houston handled Oakland, 24-17, New England slipped past Indianapolis, 24-20, and Dallas obliterated Philadelphia, 38-17. The Monday Night game this week features the Baltimore Ravens squaring off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. November 5 is also the 75th anniversary of the Steelers, and they will wear throwback uniforms during the game consequently.
