Jazz Blow Away Warriors

Published on November 03, 2007 at 11:40PM

SALT LAKE CITY-Deron Williams had 30 points and 11 assists while the Utah Jazz scorched the nets by making 63 percent of their shots as they hammered the Golden State Warriors, 133-110 Saturday night at Energy Solutions Arena. Although Golden State bolted out to a 20-9 lead in the first quarter, they were soon submerged by the Jazz as Utah finished the period on a 19-8 run, while in the second stanza the Warriors were outscored 36-18 and the rout was on. To finish things off, Williams hit seven of his last eight shots as the Jazz scored their most points since November of 1997 when they scored 133 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Additionally, on the young season, both of Utah’s wins have come at the expense of Golden State. Jayhawks Rock Huskers

LAWRENCE, Kan.-Todd Reesing was 30-41 for 354 yards and a school-record six touchdowns as the #8 Kansas Jayhawks built their profile in the eyes of the national media by embarrassing the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 76-39 Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Jayhawks punted on their first possession, but then proceeded to score touchdowns the next eight times they had the ball in the rout. The 76 points was the most the Cornhuskers have ever surrendered in their 117-year history of playing football, which for the most part has been full of success and national championships. However, for Reesing (who now is the KU single-season holder with 23 touchdown passes) and the upstart Jayhawks, they maintained their shot at a national championship by laying the lumber to the hapless ‘Huskers. Up next for the Jayhawks will be a nationally-televised game at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., wherein they will battle the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Additionally, with several high-profile teams losing once again this weekend, Kansas is one of three unbeaten teams left in Division I, with the others being Ohio State and Hawaii. In other Top 25 college football action Saturday, #1 Ohio State mowed over #21 Wisconsin, 38-17, Florida State shocked #2 Boston College, 27-17, #3 LSU came back against #17 Alabama, 41-34, #5 Oregon dominated #4 Arizona State, 35-23, #6 Oklahoma ripped apart Texas A&M, 42-14, #9 Missouri obliterated Colorado, 55-10, #10 Georgia outgunned Troy, 44-34, #12 Michigan defeated Michigan State, 28-24, #13 Connecticut doubled up Rutgers, 38-19, #15 Texas got by Oklahoma State, 38-35, #16 Auburn pounded Tennessee Tech, 35-3, Cincinnati mildly shocked #18 South Florida, 38-33, #19 USC humbled Oregon State, 24-3, #20 Florida hammered Vanderbilt, 49-22, #22 Boise State crushed San Jose State, 42-7, #23 Virginia outlasted #24 Wake Forest, 17-16, and #25 Clemson decimated Duke, 47-10.

Badgers Wrap Up WSFL Crown By Smacking EAC

Published on November 03, 2007 at 05:45PM

EPHRAIM, UTAH-Jon Eastman showed no rustiness or ill effects of injury in completing 11 of 20 passes for 304 yards and four scores as the #1 Snow Badgers shellacked the #4 Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters, 55-21 Saturday afternoon at Stoddard Field at Badger Stadium. In fact there was little for Snow coaches to complain about as the Badgers swiftly built a 24-7 lead after one quarter of play, and were able to dictate to the Gila Monsters throughout the game. As is customary, the Badgers’ running game was also superb as Vili Soni Sotele amassed 203 yards and three scores, while averaging more than nine yards a pop. Once the double-digit lead was built, the Snow defense proceeded to lock up an Eastern Arizona running game that had come into the game averaging well over 300 yards on the ground, as Snow surrendered only 218 rushing yards and only 223 yards of total offense. Additionally, Kyle Hatch snared two receptions for 127 yards and a score while the Badgers amassed 670 offensive yards overall. The Badgers have now, for all intents and purposes, wrapped up the WSFL title and can continue their quest for a national title if they can defeat the New Mexico Military Broncos, out of Roswell N.M. next Saturday. This will once again be a home game for the Badgers and kickoff will take place around noon at Stoddard Field at Badger Stadium. The game can be heard on KMTI-AM 650 or online at www.kmtiradio.com.
