Panguitch Wins Volleyball Title

(Orem, UT) The Panguitch Lady Bobcat volleyball team rocked the 1-A State Tournament with a shocking upset of the 9-time defending champ Rich Lady Rebels on Friday night. The Bobcats defeated Rich 3 games to 1 in the state final match to claim the championship trophy. Hailey Orton led the team with 29 kills, while Kalani Norris added 13 kills. The Rebels lost their first championship match in nine years. Rich was led by outside hitter Allie Eastman, who finished with 20 kills, while Torey Smith added 14 kills. Panguitch won the first game 25-20, but then lost the second to Rich by the same score. Then the Lady Bobcats won game 3 by a margin of 25-21, and then clinched the title with a 4th game win of 25-19.

MOAB, Utah-Clay Cowan caught two touchdown passes and Gordon Garrett had a 75-yard scoring run as the Grand Red Devils defeated the Manti Templars, 21-7 Friday evening in the 2A quarterfinals. David Hugentobler had the sole score for the Templars on a three-yard touchdown run.

HURRICANE, Utah-Curtis Eliason scored the sole touchdown on the night as the Delta Rabbits edged the Hurricane Tigers, 6-0 Friday night in the opening round of the 3A playoffs. Next week, the Rabbits will meet the Logan Grizzlies who defeated Park City, 24-23 on Friday.

FILLMORE, Utah-Clancy Mortensen had 165 yards and two touchdowns as the Millard Eagles blew past the Juab Wasps, 21-12 Friday evening in the 2A quarterfinals. Kyler Jones added two scores for the Wasps.

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Pat Gardner had two touchdown runs , Kai Eldridge returned a punt 92 yards for a score and Taylor Sams added a 34-yard scoring run as the Cedar Redmen decimated the North Sanpete Hawks, 34-12 Friday night in the opening round of the 3A playoffs. Russell Christensen and Reggie Clawson each caught a touchdown pass for the Hawks off of the arm of Teejay Clawson.

DUCHESNE, Utah-Tyler Reinhardt had 199 yards and four rushing touchdowns as the Duchesne Eagles doubled up the North Sevier Wolves, 26-13 Friday evening in the opening round of the 1A playoffs. Cody Weber and Tyler McEown had touchdowns for the Wolves.

KAMAS, Utah-Conor Peterson had 159 rushing yards and Brayden Stembridge rushed for 76 more yards, adding a pair of scores as the South Summit Wildcats blew past the Richfield Wildcats, 34-9 Friday night in the 2A quarterfinals. J.D. Michaelsen had a three-yard TD run for Richfield on their sole score of the game.

KANAB, Utah-Rhees Jackson caught two touchdown passes and Ty Bunting, Bryce Hafen, Thomas Quist, Kolton Perkins, and Justin Orton all scored touchdowns of their own as the Kanab Cowboys crushed the Altamont Longhorns, 45-8 Friday evening in the opening round of the 1A playoffs.
