SAN JOSE, Calif.-In a year in college football where parity reigns supreme and nationally-ranked teams suffer shocking losses on a weekly basis, the #16 Hawaii Warriors have evaded this trend. Quarterback Colt Brennan threw a school-record 75 passes, completing 44 of them for 545 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions to lead Hawaii to a 42-35 victory over the San Jose State Spartans Friday night. Behind the efficient play of signal-caller Adam Tafralis (27-47, 302 yards, 2 TD’s, 3 INT’s), the Spartans held a 35-21 lead midway through the 4th Quarter. Nevertheless, before a national television audience, Brennan saved his best for last as he threw a touchdown strike to WR Davone Bess and ran in for another score from two yards out to force overtime. After he hit receiver Jason Rivers to take a 42-35 lead in the extra session, cornerback Myron Newberry sealed the deal as he picked off Tafralis to end the game. This was the second overtime victory on the young season for the Warriors and they now head into their bye week with hopes of moving up in the polls. This would be quite advantageous to Hawaii as the BCS standings will now be updated every week until the end of the regular season. If the Warriors finish in the top six of these said standings, they will earn a berth into the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, or Rose Bowl or perhaps even in the BCS national championship game. In a season which has seen as many upsets as this one has, nothing’s impossible in Division I college football.
