Pats Obliterate Bengals, Improve to 4-0

Published on October 01, 2007 at 09:41PM

Cincinnati-Judging by Tom Brady’s performance, there’s still room for improvement. The New England Patriots’ signal-caller threw a second quarter interception which set up a Cincinnati touchdown, but otherwise he was excellent in victory as New England decimated the Cincinnati Bengals, 34-13, at Paul Brown Stadium Monday night. Brady proceeded to throw three touchdowns, two of which went to new acquisition Randy Moss and the Patriots’ defense surrendered less than 300 yards of offense to the explosive Bengals. This was a disappointing loss for Cincinnati as they have sunk to the bottom of the AFC North with this defeat at 1-3 as they trail division-leading Pittsburgh by two games. Next week, the Pats return home to battle the Cleveland Browns at Foxboro, Mass., while the Bengals will have a bye. This is essential for Cincinnati as at one point in this game, they only had two healthy linebackers so the rest is much needed.

Packers Hold on On Favre's Historic Day

Published on October 01, 2007 at 09:34AM

Minneapolis-At long last, Brett Favre has placed himself above Dan Marino in at least one category. A 16-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jennings in the 1st Quarter gave the Packers’ veteran his 421st career scoring toss as Green Bay held off a late Vikings surge to prevail, 23-16. Favre also threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns on the day, while rookie kicker Mason Crosby nailed three field goals for the Packers. Despite falling behind 23-9 in the final period, the Vikings made a late run of it as QB Kelly Holcombe (21-39, 258 yards, TD, INT) hit rookie receiver Sidney Rice on a 15-yard touchdown pass but Minnesota was unable to get the ball back again. Green Bay is now 4-0 and will host Chicago on NBC’s Sunday Night Football next week. In other NFL action, Arizona got past Pittsburgh, 21-14, Atlanta defeated Houston, 26-16, Cleveland stunned Baltimore, 27-13, Buffalo edged the New York Jets, 17-14, Tampa Bay smacked Carolina, 20-7, Detroit surged past Chicago, 37-27, Dallas steamrolled St. Louis, 35-7, Indianapolis pummeled Denver, 38-20, Kansas City blew by San Diego, 30-16, Oakland pounded Miami, 35-17, the New York Giants dominated Philadelphia, 16-3, and Seattle decimated San Francisco, 23-3. The Monday night game features the New England Patriots against the Cincinnati Bengals with a 6:30 kickoff slated for ESPN.
