Buffs Stun Sooners in Homecoming Victory

Published on September 29, 2007 at 03:02PM

(Boulder, Colo.) Kevin Eberhart hit a field goal from 45 yards out as time expired and the Colorado Buffaloes celebrated homecoming with a 27-24 victory over the #4 Oklahoma Sooners Saturday afternoon. This was a lackluster performance by the Sooners from the beginning as 14 of their points came after a duo of interceptions by cornerback D.J. Wolfe which put Oklahoma within the Buffaloes’ 20-yard line both times. Furthermore, the Buffaloes outgained the Sooners, 373-230, while Colorado tailback Hugh Charles amassed 104 yards against a solid Oklahoma run defense. This was also the Buffaloes’ first victory against Oklahoma since 1999, which was Bob Stoops’ first season in Norman, Okla., while Colorado coach Dan Hawkins beat the Sooners for the first time in his career. The loss puts the Sooners’ once-lofty national title hopes in serious jeopardy and next week, they must battle the powerful Texas Longhorns. As for Colorado, the traditional national power has a signature victory for the first time in the Dan Hawkins era.
