(Manti) Today marks the official start of construction on the new jail facility in Manti. Site preparation has been on going for a while, but the official ground breaking took place this morning. Officials from the county, sheriffs department, and local communities attended the event. Commissioner Bruce Blackham stated that it would have been impossible to look to the future without the new facility. The project will be paid for through a combination of state, federal, and community impact board funds. The county accepted a bond for six million dollars of the total cost of the building which will house inmates from a variety of law enforcement agencies.
