(Yuma,Ariz.) The Snow College defense put forth yet another impressive effort, surrendering only 133 yards of offense to the Arizona Western Matadors in a 22-13 win Saturday evening. The game was the conference opener for both teams in Western Leagues football play. The Matadors, despite their 0-2 start to the season came out inspired as they hosted the #2 team in the junior college rankings. Nevertheless, the Badgers eventually found offensive success primarily behind the consistent excellence of Soni Sotele who amassed 131 yards on 29 carries. Also coming up big for the Badgers was Joseph Sawyer who had numerous catches, including a nine-yard touchdown reception to lead Snow to victory. Still, defense was once again the calling card of the Badgers as they gave up no touchdowns as the Matadors’ only scores came on defense and special teams. Next week, the Badgers will have a bye as they prepare for the Mesa Thunderbirds the following Saturday, Sept.29 at Mesa, Ariz.
