Central Utah Fires
Published on August 23, 2007 at 11:38AM
(Scipio) The Lowery fire east of Scipion is still growing. It has now burned over nineteen hundred acres in Japs valley. The fire is burning in heavy brush from the valley floor to the ridge tops which is making it difficult to fight. No structures are threatened so fire crews are only trying to restrict the growth and impact of the fire. More equipment has been ordered including several aircraft.
Another fire was also started yesterday near Monument Peak south of Milford. That fire has now burned about three hundred acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews are working to create and maintain hand and dozer lines.
