No Water Rate Change in Mt. Pleasant

Published on August 21, 2007 at 11:36AM

(Mt. Pleasant) The Mount Pleasant city council recently held a public hearing to take input on a proposed water rate change. Around fifteen residents turned out for the meeting and expressed concern over the proposal. The current system charges nineteen dollars and forty-one cents for the first three thousand gallons of water used, and fifty cents every thousand gallons over that. The proposal would have increased the base rate to twenty dollars for the first four thousand gallons and then use stepped increases for extra water used. The idea behind the proposal was to encourage conservation, but some were concerned that it would become too expensive for those who don’t have access to irrigation water. The council decided to table the proposal and look further at the options before making a decision.
