1-A/2-A Wrestling

RICHFIELD, Utah-Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center, two state championships were decided in wrestling with many Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network athletes and teams excelling.

The Sevier Valley Center hosted both the 2-A and 1-A wrestling state championships and the Altamont Longhorns asserted themselves as champions in the 2-A classification.

The Longhorns posted 244 points, narrowly edging Region 16 rival North Summit for the state title, as the Braves posted 240 points.

Region 18’s Millard Eagles finished third with 232.5 points while their region rivals North Sevier (218 points) and Beaver (170.5 points) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

In 1-A, the Monticello Buckaroos took the state championship decisiviely, amassing 252 points. Second-place Panguitch finished far behind with 142 points. Wayne’s Badgers finished third with 131 points, giving Region 19 two finishes in the top three, as Monticello also represents Region 19.

Milford, now in Region 21 finished fourth with 101 points and Panguitch’s Region 20 rival, Piute, placed fifth, netting 96 points.

Monticello’s state title was cemented by several key stalwarts in thei respective weight classifications who took individual state championships. These included Zac Musselman at 145 pounds and Brayson Wilcox at 160 pounds for the Buckaroos.

Other individual state championships earned by Monticello came from Brevin Olson in the 113-pound division, Mark Beh at 126 pounds, Steven Robinson at 132 pounds, Gage Wilcox at 195 pounds, Thomas Anderson at 170 pounds and Justin Cecil in the 182-pound division.

Panguitch received individual state championships from Kaden Beckstead at 120 pounds and Zackary Julander at 138 pounds.

The Bryce Valley Mustangs made school history in the 285-pound division as Brandon Jones vanquished Wayne’s Daniel Ayala in the championship bout.

Other individual state titles came from Piute’s Jax Westwood at 106 pounds, Barlow Pace of Wayne at 152 pounds and Milford’s Trae Williamson at 220 pounds.

In 2-A, the Longhorns’ historic first wrestling state title was punctuated by Danny Thompson who took the championship at 152 pounds.

McKay Fox also helped the Longhorns gain the crown by winning the individual state title at 145 pounds.

Other individual titles in 2-A came from Gunnison’s Avery Anderson at 106 pounds, Brian Evans of Beaver at 113 pounds, Van Bray of Millard at 120 pounds, Enterprise’ AJ Anderson at 126 pounds, Gage Mason of North Sevier at 132 pounds, Keyan Staples of North Summit at 138 pounds, Taten Ringel of North Summit at 160 pounds, North Summit’s Jace Anderson at 170 pounds, Millard’s John Kelly at 182 pounds, Beaver’s Tyce Raddon at 195 pounds, Calun Whitaker of Millard at 220 pounds and Eduardo Rodriguez of North Summit at 285 pounds.

3-A Wrestling

OREM, Utah-Saturday, at Utah Valley University, the Juab Wasps decisively took the 3-A state wrestling title, posting 304 points, while Delta, their Region 14 rival, was second with 224.5 points.

Morgan took third as the Trojans, repping Region 14 posted 171 points with Union, also repping Region 14 placing fourth, finishing with 132 points. Emery was fifth in the standings with 128 points, carrying the banner for Region 15.

Instrumental in the Wasps’ state championship was 132-pound stalwart Gentry Warner who goes out of the Juab program as a 3-time state champion.

Within a span of one minute and 44 seconds, Warner vanquished Carbon’s Casey Shiner to win the state championship at that weight.

The Wasps also obtained individual state championships from Conner Ingram in the 113-pound classification, Cade Bowring at 138 pounds, Joey Aagard at 160 pounds and Talon Mangelson at 195 pounds.

The Wasps’ state title credentials were bolstered by several key second and third-place finishes. Finishing second was Kalob Nyobo at 120 pounds.

Those finishing in third place in their respective weight classes for Juab included Tyler Lynn at 145 pounds, Wyatt Harmon at 152 pounds, Charles Watts at 182 pounds, Jackson Schugk at 220 pounds and Jaxson Kendall at 285 pounds.

All told, the Wasps boasted 11 wrestlers who placed in their respective weight classifications.

The Delta Rabbits had a pair of individual state champions. These included Tanner Shields at 170 pounds and Yair Moran at 182 pounds.

Additionally, Richfield’s Denim Torgerson took the state title in the 106-pound division, besting Morgan’s Joseph Mecham.

Other individual 3-A state champions included Morgan’s Jarett Jorgensen at 120 pounds, Quenton Mortimer of American Leadership Academy at 126 pounds, Jate Frost of Union at 145 pounds, Morgan’s Antonio Nava at 152 pounds, Chase Trussell of Morgan at 220 pounds and South Summit’s Porter Fox at 285 pounds.
