About 150 people showed up at Snow College in Ephraim campus and the Snow College Richfield Campus on Thursday to hear Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox talk about Governor Herbert’s 25k Jobs program. The jobs tour is encouraging the creation of 25,000 new jobs in rural Utah by 2020.

The stops was number 21st and 22nd of 25 in Utah’s rural counties and brought together service providers, business owners and even some people looking for employment.

Cox explained that with the tech boom along the Wasatch Front, the State wants to get some of those companies to move to Sanpete County.

And as light manufacturing jobs move back to the United States, that will create another opportunity for job creation in rural Utah.

Cox said when he was asked by one reporter why he is doing this, his response was something he always heard his father say: “I’m tired of exporting our kids.”

He added that he finds himself lucky that he can live in this area and wants to give others that opportunity.

“Rural Utah is not for everybody. I get that,” Cox said. “But it is for somebody and it’s for our kids and grandkids. I want them to have that option to not have to sacrifice to go somewhere else if they want to live here.”
