SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Flags will be flown at half-staff on all Utah government buildings and public grounds on Monday in remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The state is also encouraging businesses and schools to fly their flags at half-staff to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on 9/11.

Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert has declared Monday Patriot Day.

The governor said in a statement that Utahns should remember the sacrifices of those who died on that day 16 years ago and others who have been fighting terrorism since then.

He says we should honor them by remembering our sacred duties as both Americans and as decent human beings.
