EPHRAIM, Utah (Sept. 6, 2017)—After getting off to an 8-1 start to the season, including a 4-1 record this past weekend, the Snow College women’s volleyball team moved up one spot in the NJCAA National Poll to No. 10. At the Roughrider Invitational in Prescott, Arizona, the Badgers recorded wins over South Mountain (3-0), Yavapai College (3-1), and Eastern Arizona (3-0). After dropping their first match of the season to New Mexico Military (1-3), the Badgers rebounded on Monday to nail down a decisive 3-0 victory over Chandler-Gilbert.

The Badgers have won six of their eight matches by a score of 3-0. Snow has played in only three matches that went four games and have posted a 2-1 record in those matches. Snow has not played in a five-game set this season.

“As the season continues, we are running in to tougher and tougher competition,” Reynolds said. “If we do this right, we’ll continue to get better and better with each match. We appreciate the recognition we receive from the national voters, but we’re not satisfied. We didn’t set a goal to be number 10. We still have some work to do, and we hope that will be reflected in not only the rankings, but also the standings.”

Four of the six-teams in the Scenic West Athletic Conference are listed among this week’s national top-20, including No. 4 Salt Lake CC (7-2), No. 6 Southern Idaho (8-1), No. 4 Snow College (8-1), and No. 13 Utah State-Eastern (8-0). Only one other region - Region 8 - has more teams in the NJCAA Top-20. Region 8 has a total of 18 teams in the region, with five of the 18 being ranked in the top-20, including one team that has yet to play a match.

“Without a doubt, we play in the toughest region in the nation,” Reynolds said. “The fact that we have four of our six teams from our conference ranked in the top-20 is testament to that fact. We also had the chance to see the other two teams from our league play this past weekend. Both those teams are solid as well. There are no easy matches in Region 18.”

Snow will travel to Twin Falls, Idaho this weekend to participate in the Starr Corp. Invitational. The Badgers will start the tournament off with an early match on Friday against Hutchinson (Kan.), followed by an afternoon match against Yavapai College. On Saturday, Snow will take on Monroe College (N.Y.), followed by the final match of the tournament against 16th-ranked Arizona Western. Originally the Badgers were slated to take on Central Florida on Saturday; however, the team from Ocala, Fla., is unable to make the trip due to Hurricane Irma.
