(Salt Lake City, UT) —  The Utah Department of Public Safety is using its newest helicopter to rescue more stranded and injured people than ever.  Flight officers with DPS say the number of rescues this summer is likely to set a new record.  The Salt Lake City-based helicopter was called out three times last weekend, bring the total number of calls since Memorial Day to nearly three-dozen.  DPS officials think the rise in calls is a reflection of the rising number of tourists and locals who are exploring Utah’s tough backcountry areas.
