Utah State’s Dax Raymond Named to John Mackey Award Watch List

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State redshirt sophomore tight end Dax Raymond has been named to the 2017 John Mackey Award Watch List, it was announced Tuesday by the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The John Mackey Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.

Presented since 2000, the John Mackey Award lists fourteen alumni to have played in the NFL.

Raymond is one of four Mountain West tight ends named to the John Mackey Award Watch List, along with Boise State senior Jake Roh, Hawai’i senior Metuisela Unga and San Diego State senior David Wells. Raymond is also the only tight end from the state of Utah recognized.

In all, Raymond is one of just 55 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) tight ends named to the John Mackey Award Watch List.

Raymond, a 6-foot-5, 245-pounder from Provo, Utah (Timpview HS), who redshirted during the 2016 season due to injury, played in nine games as a true freshman in 2015 and finished the season with four receptions for 72 yards (18.0 ypc). He had a season-long 22-yard reception against Colorado State (10/3) and tied that with a 22-yard reception against Akron (12/22) in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Raymond also had a 19-yard reception at Washington (9/19) and a nine-yard catch at Utah (9/11).

The winner of the 2017 John Mackey Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 6.

Utah State will begin the 2017 season at Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. (MT), in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU’s home opener will be on Thursday, Sept. 7, against Idaho State at 6 p.m., while its Mountain West opener will be at San José State on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Fans can become season ticket holders for as low as $110. New for 2017 are Value Season Ticket Plans, which include four adult season tickets on the east side of the stadium starting at $450. Youth season tickets are available for just $60 and Family Plans, consisting of two adult tickets and three youth tickets, can be purchased for as low as $340.
