(Salt Lake City, UT) — The National Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America hopes the Mormon Church will continue supporting youth Scouting programs. Charles Dahlquist served as the Young Men General President for the Church for five years, giving him some insight into last week’s decision to end participation in Scouting programs for older teens. Dahlquist said during an interview over the weekend that programs like Varsity and Venturing were seen as optional by scouts and Church officials and were not well-supported. But Dahlquist adds that the core values that Scouting instills in young men are still important to the Church because they help make LDS youth better leaders, husbands and fathers.
