Utah Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Washington, 3-1 and 4-3 (10 Innings)

SEATTLE – The Utah baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Washington on Saturday, falling 3-1 in game one and 4-3 in 10 innings in game two.
A solo home run on the first pitch of the game off the bat of DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. was the only offense the Utes could muster in game one’s 3-1 loss to the Huskies. Dallas Carroll went 2-for-4 at the plate while Jayson Rose allowed six runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts over six innings pitched in the loss on the mound.
With the game tied 3-3 in game three, Washington hit a one-out double and took advantage of three walks (including one intentional walk) to pick up the win in the 10th inning. Zack Moeller went 2-for-4 to lead Utah at the plate. Riley Ottesen pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts. Tanner Thomas was strong in relief, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out two. Dylan Drachler earned the loss after entering in the ninth.
Utah and Washington close out the series with game three on Sunday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. MT/3:00 p.m. PT.
Utah took a quick 1-0 lead in the first winning when Keirsey hit the first pitch of the game over the right field fence. Carroll also doubled in the inning and Josh Rose was intentionally walked before a fly out ended the inning.
Washington came right back in the bottom of the first as a leadoff triple and solo home run put the Huskies back on top, 2-1.
The Utes left two runners on base in the third after back-to-back singles from Carroll and Hunter Simmons. Utah had four of its five hits in the first three innings.
Washington pulled ahead in the fifth with a run after a two-out walk and an RBI double for a 3-1 lead.
In addition to Jayson Rose, Hunter Rodriguez (2/3 of an inning pitched, one strikeout, one hit) and Tanner Thomas (1 1/3 innings pitched, one hit) also pitched for the Utes.
Washington took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. Two walks and an RBI single got the Huskies their first run of the game while the second inning saw a run score on a passed ball after a leadoff single.
Utah came back in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. Chandler Anderson walked while Moeller singled and Kyle Hoffman also walked to load the bases. Keirsey singled up the middle to bring in the first run for the Utes. After a fly out, Carroll walked to send home another run. Simmons hit into a sacrifice fly and Keirsey got caught in a rundown at home to end the inning.
Washington tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the fourth inning as an infield single and RBI double led to a run before a pair of strikeouts got the Utes out of the inning.
The Huskies threatened in the ninth inning, putting two on with two outs before Drachler got a strikeout to end the inning and push the game into extras.
