(Salt Lake City, UT) — There’s a push by U.S. senators to get Greater Canyonlands designated as a national monument. Fourteen senators have sent a letter to President Obama urging him to create the national monument, saying almost two-million acres around Canyonlands National Park should be “permanently protected.” Congressman Jim Matheson is among the Utah leaders who aren’t too keen on the idea, telling KSL the creation of national monuments should go through the legislative process.
