Four Sanpete County communities have chosen long-time residents as the grand marshals to lead their Fourth of July parades this year.

In Gunnison, Dr. Von Pratt and his wife, DeeAnn, will lead the first parade of the day. The Pratts have lived in Gunnison for 38 years, and Dr. Pratt had a thriving medical practice for 27 of those years.

Moroni’s grand marshals served for eight years on the Fourth of July committee during the 1970’s and 80’s. Frank and Beryl Cook were high school sweethearts in Moroni and have lived there most of their married life.

The Mt. Pleasant Hub City Days grand marshals are Elmo and JoAnn Winward. JoAnn was raised in Mt. Pleasant, and she and Elmo lived on the Wasatch Front until returning to Sanpete County 15 years ago.

Manti’s parade will be headed by Don and Aleth Simmons. Don was a member of the Manti Jaycees in 1961 when the idea for a Fourth of July celebration at the city park was launched.

Gunnison’s parade begins Friday at 9 a.m., followed by Moroni’s parade at 10 a.m. Mt. Pleasant has two parades, the children’s parade at 11 followed by the mammoth parade at 11:30. And Manti’s parade will start down Main Street at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
