Gillespie Blames All Sides For Confrontation

(Las Vegas, NV) — Sheriff Doug Gillespie says there’s plenty of blame to go around for April’s standoff over unpaid grazing fees by rancher Cliven Bundy. Gillespie tells the “Las Vegas Sun” the Bureau of Land Management’s court orders demanding back fees said nothing about seizing Bundy’s cattle, and the sheriff says officials refused to listen to his advice. Gillespie says the BLM was wrong in the way it dealt with protesters by using, quote, “tasers and police dogs”, but also thinks Bundy and his armed militia supporters “did not win”. The standoff between federal agents and supporters near Bundy’s ranch outside Vegas ended after the BLM stopped its cattle roundup. The FBI is still investigating what happened.
