Authorities are trying to determine why a bicyclist from Belgium died in eastern Utah earlier this week. Grand County sheriff’s officials say they recovered the body of 46-year-old Dirk De Muynck on Tuesday, a day after a family member reported he hadn’t returned as scheduled from a ride on the Amasa Back Bike Trail. Officials say the cyclist’s body was found on the Jackson Trail, downriver from the Kane Creek Trail parking area. Deputies say it appears De Muynck was carrying his mountain bike when he went down, and had extra water and food with him at the time. His body was transported to Salt Lake City for an autopsy. A cause of death wasn’t immediately clear. Officials say De Muynck is from Waarschoot, Belgium.
