GOP report: Health care signups lagging

A new report from House Republicans show that about 3 in 10 Utah residents who signed up for health insurance through a new federal exchange hadn’t paid their first month’s premium as of mid-April. The report indicates that 73 percent of people in Utah who had paid is higher than the national average of 67 percent. But, that percentage is less than 14 of the 34 other states that are relying on the federal government to run their exchanges. Critics of the health care overhaul said the report undermines the Obama administration’s claims of robust enrollment under the new health law. Defenders said the report is inaccurate and out-of-date since it cut off data in mid-April, failing to capture a surge of sign ups.
