(EPHRAIM) – Snow College is cutting several positions in order to accommodate budget cuts imposed by the state legislature earlier this year. Director of Admissions, Greg Dart, says the cuts affect administrators, teachers and support staff. He said one Vice-President position will be eliminated and seven faculty positions will be cut and all but one were worked out through an early retirement package. Some positions will be completely eliminated. He said the teachers are being given an eight month head start to find other jobs or obtain additional education for other positions. Dart said the 20 positions being cut were worked out through early retirement, empty positions and re-assignments in other open positions at both the Ephraim and Richfield campuses. Earlier this year, the state legislature mandated a four-percent cut for this year and the next fiscal year along with unknown future cuts. Dart said Snow administrators decided to enact an 8% cut in the fiscal year of July 2009 to balance out any additional cuts in the future. He said student enrollment caps and tuition hikes will not been considered at this time.
