Intermountain West Athletes Shine at Weber

OGDEN, Utah (AP)-Saturday, Weber State University played host to the Weber State Outdoor Open track and field meet, which saw numerous athletes throughout the region excel.

To start things off, Wyoming’s Audrey West won the women’s 100-meter dash, while Montana State’s Kaylee Schmitz placed first in the women’s 1500-meter run.

Other wins came from Jenna Mann of Wyoming in the 100-meter hurdles, her teammate Audra DeStefano in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and the Cowgirls also took the 4×400 relay title in a time of 3:45.92.

The Utah State Lady Aggies’ team of Brittany Rawlins, Bailee Whitworth, Chalese West and Kaitlyn Wilcox took the 4×100 title in a time of 46.22, while Utah State’s women were also bolstered by Sam Nielson’s victory in the triple jump, posting a mark of 39-09.75.

Weber State’s Tiffany Hellstrom won the javelin crown on her home turf with a mark of 153-04 to close out the women’s events.

As for the men, Utah State’s Nic Bowens won the 100-meter dash while Jesse Sorensen of Idaho State took the 400-meter dash title.

Other wins among the men came from Montana State’s Cristian Soratos in the 1500-meter run, Jordan Charles of Wyoming in the 110-meter hurdles and Weber State’s men in the 4×100 relay as Darion Zimmerman, Jonathan McUne, Seth Fortin and Jesse Krey posted a time of 41.25 seconds.

Anthony Gregory also fared well for Weber State, taking the men’s high jump crown with a mark of 6-08.75, while Montana State’s men took the 4×400 relay title and Kevin Allen of Utah State won the discus with a mark of 164-08.

Finishing off the individual titles was Montana State’s Sean Ferriter in the hammer throw, amassing a mark of 196-09 while his teammate Ty Bermes was the javelin champion, tossing it 204-00 feet.
