University of Utah Hosts Spring Classic

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)-Friday, the University of Utah played host to an intercollegiate track meet which brought many of the Intermountain West’s greatest athletes to the campus for the Utah Spring Classic.
At the meet at the McCarthey family track, Wyoming’s Kereston Thomas was among the strong performers, placing first in the women’s 100-meter dash.
Other wins came from Montana State’s Chantel Jaeger in the women’s 200-meter dash, Ali Eisenbeiss of Utah in the women’s 800-meter run and her teammate Rebekah Winterton in the 3000-meter run.
Additionally, Heather Demorest of Montana State won the women’s 5000-meter run and Utah State’s Cree Taylor placed first in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.22 seconds.
The Lady Aggies also excelled in the women’s 4×100 meter relay, winning in a time of 47.98 seconds and Utah State’s Chari Hawkins also fared well, winning the women’s high jump.
Other wins for the women came from Casey Teska of Montana State in the pole vault, Katy Hufford of Weber State in the long jump and Utah’s Nikkie Rudder and Aoife Hickey in the shot put and hammer throw respectively.
As for the men, Montana State’s Chris Wilson won the 100-meter dash and Michael McPherson of Utah Valley won the 200-meter dash and Utah State’s Eric Shellhorn won the 800-meter run.
Additionally, Montana State’s Michael Asay won the 5000-meter dash, Jordan Charles of Wyoming won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 51.49 seconds and the Utah State men took the 4×100 relay title in a time of 40.20 seconds.
To close things out, Montana State’s Jake Mushaben won the long jump with a leap of 7.23 meters. Most of these teams will congregate in Ogden Saturday for the Weber State Invitational.
