Officials with the Utah State Courts are cautioning the public about a scam that relates to jury duty. Nancy Volmer with the courts says the scam involves the victim being called by someone claiming to be a court employee and telling the victim that a warrant has been issued for their arrest for failing to report for jury duty. Volmer says the scammers say they need to get personal identifying information such as a Social Security number, a birth date, and sometimes even a credit card, so they can recall the warrant. The scam was fairly common several years ago and only recently resurfaced in Utah. Volmer says there are reports of it happening in Provo and Ogden. Also, she says there are reports of similar scams in the St. George area where people with other court business are being targeted.
