A Utah Senate spokesman says Senate Majority Leader Ralph Okerlund is improving after he collapsed Wednesday at a leadership meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Senate Chief of Staff Ric Cantrell says Okerlund is tired but cheerful and is undergoing tests at a Salt Lake City area hospital. Cantrell says he is only releasing details that Okerlund’s family has agreed to release.

Senate staff and Okerlund’s legislative colleagues have said he had a “medical event,” but they haven’t released further details. The Monroe Republican did not return to the last day of the legislative session Thursday. The bills he was sponsoring were handed off to other lawmakers.
